Welcome to Outreach & Service Learning Center (Formerly known as C2C)! We are a grant-funded program through Campus Compact with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Outreach & Service Learning Center recognizes the valuable resource of our students and utilizes them to provide peer-to-peer mentoring, advocacy and to plan and coordinate campus and community-based service learning opportunities to support students in their goals of achieving academic success and program completion.
How does Outreach & Service Learning Center work?
Students will be matched with a Peer Advocate or Peer NaviGator, who will provide helpful assistance in navigating the college system, finding and using resources, and being a "wise guide" to better understand the culture of higher education. Mentoring connections may be 1-2 hours per week, and will be centered around helping the student establish a strong network at the college and provide the opportunity for engaging in civic and campus activities.
How can a I benefit from Outreach & Service Learning Center?
Experience and research show that the more students are connected with their college and engaged in activities in their community, the more likely they will be in completing their intended degrees. As a mentee, you will easily become acclimated to college through your participation in this mentoring program.
Overview of Program
The Outreach & Service Learning Center project uses students who have been successful in college as Peer Advocates (PAs) or mentors for those students new to the college who have applied to the project. In conjunction with developmental education courses, C2C students participate in community-engaged learning activities through projects coordinated by PAs and campus community engagement offices.
PAs work with C2C student to:
- Support students in setting goals
- Help students make connections to college life
- Help students achieving academic success
- Help students navigate college systems
- Help students link to college services designed to help students be successful
Request a Mentor
Students eligible for being matched with a Peer Advocate in the C2C peer mentoring and service learning program are
- Domestic students who are new to the college (within one year of first day of attendance)
- Enrolled in developmental reading, writing, and math classes.
Note: Students who do not meet the above criteria, will still be provided a peer mentor through the Commencement Achievement Program (CAP) and the Master Achiever Center (MAC).

How to become a Peer Advocate
- Apply in LC-225
- Complete application paperwork
- Have at least one letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff that indicates confidence in their interpersonal skills
- Have cummulative GPA 2.5 or better
- Be in good standing with the college
- Have a screening interview
- Recieve 4-6 hours of training before being matched with C2C students
What is the role of a Peer Advocate
- Provide mentoring to C2C students individually, in study tables and in developmental education classes
- Support C2C students in setting goals
- Help C2C students make connections to college life
- Help C2C students achieving academic success
- Help C2C students navigate college systems
- Help C2C students link to college services designed to help students be successful
- Plan and implement service learning activities with mentees
Certificates of Appreciation or Achievement
Volunteer PAs' hours will be montiored, and each PA will be eligible for Certificates of Appreciation or Achievement after a set number of hours have been tracked. These certificates clearly show the number of hours performed of commitment to civic or campus engagement. Such documentation can be very useful when students apply to transfer to 4-year institutions.
