Student Programs Office There’s more to college than attending classes, studying and taking exams. Much of what you learn in college comes from experiences outside of the classroom. Here are a few of the ways to use your voice and get involved on campus.
Artist & Speakers Series The Student Programs Office coordinates the Artist & Speakers Series, one of the most popular community-oriented programs the college offers. Well-known entertainers and speakers appear on campus throughout the academic year. Tickets and information are available in the Student Programs Office.
Athletics GRCC is one of 35 colleges in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho that make up the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC). GRCC has a history of successful men and women’s varsity athletic teams that compete in a variety of intercollegiate sports. Varsity sports include tennis, baseball, basketball, fastpitch, golf, soccer, and volleyball, all of which have consistently produced playoff teams.As a student at GRCC, you can attend all varsity sports events free. If you are interested in participating in a varsity athletic sport, call the Athletic Department in the Student Programs Office. Most sports begin practice one month before the first official game or match.
Community Leadership, Education, & Outreach
(CLEO) Program GRCC’s leadership program, CLEO, is a unique opportunity within the Washington community college system for self-motivated, hard-working students to challenge themselves and gain substantial work experience.
Qualified students learn valuable skills with
hands-on, paid experience in program management. Participants spend a
portion of their time in workshops and training sessions that supplement
their on-the-job training. Student coordinator
Clubs & Organizations Student clubs and organizations are open to all students, although a few clubs have certain membership criteria. Clubs offer a comfortable atmosphere for you to meet others and have fun.
American Design Drafting Association
Committees Students may participate on college committees such as the bookstore, environmental, health services, Multicultural and Equity Council, instructional, technology fee, tenure, transportation, or women’s programs. Contact the Student Government office for more information.
The Current - Student Newspaper The Current is GRCC’s award-winning student newspaper that is published by and for students. You can join the team of creative journalists who write, edit, and produce the newspaper five times a quarter. Typically, staff members are enrolled in Journalism 100 classes, but all students are welcome to participate. You can also contribute story ideas or announcements.
Heavier Than Air Family Theatre Company The Heavier Than Air Family Theatre Company is a resident children’s community theater group sponsored by the Associated Students of Green River Community College and the Green River Foundation. Participation is open to all students and adult members of the community. Auditions for actors are held on the first Tuesday and Thursday of each quarter in the Performing Arts building. Rehearsals occur each Tuesday and Thursday of the quarter, 7-10 p.m.
International Student Activities Student Programs offers a wide variety of activities each quarter for both international and U.S. students including: paintballing, sports events, whale watching, trips to Vancouver and Victoria, Canada, camping, a moonlight cruise, International month, and various entertainment groups.
Intramurals & Recreational Sports Intramural sports are for students, staff, and faculty who enjoy competition in a casual and fun atmosphere. They meet during the noon hour and include sports such as badminton, basketball, indoor soccer, volleyball, aerobics, and pickleball. The open gym time is available to everyone, and for walking and jogging enthusiasts, GRCC maintains a beautiful 1.2-mile trail on campus. A portion of the trail is paved and accessible for wheelchairs.
KENU 1330 AM Radio
Student-operated, all-digital KENU, “The
Pulse,” broadcasts a mixture of modern dance and techno music, community
information, new and sports, 24 hours a day. The station can be heard
throughout southeastern King and northeastern Pierce counties. The station
is active in the local community with remote broadcasts, news, community
information, sports broadcasts, and advertising and marketing support. You
can get involved with “The Pulse” through the college’s Broadcasting
KGRG 89.9 FM Radio KGRG is a student-operated, noncommercial FM radio station that broadcasts from studios in the Lindbloom Student Center. KGRG is operated 24 hours a day by students enrolled in the college’s Broadcasting program. The station plays modern rock with a number of specialty shows featuring a wide variety of alternative music. You can get involved with KGRG through the college’s Broadcasting program. Diversity Services Center
The Diversity Services Center is committed to
providing programs and services to recruit and retain ethnic student
populations; educate and encourage the college and surrounding community
to value cultural differences; and developed and strengthen community
partnerships with Green River Community College.
Student Leadership Development
Outdoor Programs (ODP) Outdoor Programs provides you opportunities to experience the Pacific Northwest through a number of popular outdoor activities. Activities include bungee jumping, white water rafting, hiking, camping, professional sporting games, snowboarding and skiing. From time to time, ODP hosts tours to Northwest Trek, whale watching, and a Leavenworth holiday excursion. Family members are welcome!
Rendezvous Chamber Singers Rendezvous Chamber Singers is GRCC’s premier vocal ensemble, consisting of 16 auditioned singers, backed by a three piece combo and utilizing a full sound system. The group performs at campus events, area schools and performances, as hired, throughout the school year.

The Associated Students of Green River
Community College (ASGRCC) is the officially recognized student voice in
the governance of the college. The major objectives of the ASGRCC are to
provide the opportunity for student organization,
Theatre Extemporé Theatre Extemporé offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of stage productions, and receive credit for their participation. It allows experienced students to audition for challenging leading roles and less experienced (or inexperienced!) students to make a start at acting, or in stage practice: lighting, sound, sets, makeup, or promotional activities. Theatre Extemporé produces a play each quarter, with auditions always taking place the first two days of the quarter in the Performing Arts Building. For the title of the next play to be performed, check the Quarterly Class Schedule, under “Drama 111,” or use the contact information listed above.
Volunteer Services Program Both students and community volunteers are utilized throughout the campus in positions that include: student tutors, math tutors, science lab assistants, readers for court reporting, computer assistance, ceramic class assistance and office help. The hours are flexible and the experiences are rewarding. To get involved, call the Volunteer Office at ext. 3330. |
