What's Happening?

There's more to college than attending classes, studying and taking exams. Much of what you learn in college comes from experiences outside of the classroom. There's something going on every day - lectures, club meetings, student government, art exhibits, concerts, intramural sports, and more. A great way to use your voice and be involved on campus is through the Community Leadership, Education, & Outreach (CLEO) Program.

Green River Community College's leadership program, CLEO, is a unique opportunity within the Washington community college system for self-motivated, hard-working students to challenge themselves and gain substantial work experiences. Qualified students learn valuable skills with hands-on experience in managing a program while at the same time earning money. Each position assumes responsibility for planning, organizing, budgeting, and implementing activities to meet the varied needs of Green River students, faculty, staff, and surrounding communities. During the Summer participants spend a portion of their time in workshops and training sessions that supplement their on-the-job training. Training also focuses on the communications skills necessary for the CLEO members to become student ambassadors for the college. The skills and experience gained in this program have helped many CLEO members move on to highly successful careers.

Benefits

As a result of the educational and work opportunities, students find the CLEO program remarkably rewarding, both personally and professionally. The CLEO program gives members the opportunity to learn various aspects of business management, personal leadership, program planning, promotion, public relations, marketing, conflict management, time management,  communication, and advertising. This includes goal-setting, decision-making, delegating responsibility, budgeting, personal organization, merchandising, marketing research, multimedia production, entertainment booking, lighting, ticket sales, graphic layout and more.

The student coordinator positions include: Artist & Speaker Series, Special Events/Music & Entertainment, Clubs & Organizations, Outdoor Programs/Intramurals, Office Manager/Publicity, Multicultural, International Activities, International student Ambassadors, Student Body President, Vice President and Chief Justice.

This highly respected program has established Green River as a model for student development programs throughout the Washington community college system, and you can be a part of it. For more information or an application, call the Director of Student Life.

"There is an undeniable, positive effect that the GRCC leadership program has had (and continues to have) on my life personally and professionally. The way I do these things now is molded from the learning experiences I had at GRCC. The two years I spent involved in the program have had the most impact on my life (even more than my University days). 'Rewarding' is an understatement. 'Invaluable' would be more accurate. Thanks GRCC."
