Message from the President: Happy winter term & upcoming dates

By Suzanne M. Johnson, January 11, 2018

Dear Green River College Community,

As the winter term gets underway I wanted to take a moment to share some important upcoming dates with you.  Creating opportunities for us to come together to build relationships and share information is a foundational element of our college community.  I hope to see you all at some or all of these upcoming events.  And, as always, I am here for you whether it’s a phone call, email, or drop by visit.

Upcoming meetings:

  • Our quarterly meeting dates have been set for the winter term:
    • All Managers Meeting will be March 2nd from Noon – 1 p.m.  (Cascade Room)
    • All Faculty Meeting will be March 6th from Noon – 1 p.m.  (River Room)
    • All Campus Meeting will be March 9th from Noon – 1 p.m.  (River Room)
  • Afternoons (or Mornings) with the President continue to be held monthly.  Here are the first several for the new year:
    • January 19th from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. (Emerald City Room)
    • February 9th from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.  (Emerald City Room)
    • March 12th from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.  (Emerald City Room)
  • NEW:  Town hall meetings for winter term (as shared in my late November communication to the college)
    • Town Hall #1:  Student enrollment and retention:  January 29th from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  (River Room)
      • Town hall follow up February 1st from Noon – 1 p.m. (Willow Room)
      • Town hall follow up February 8th from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. (Emerald City Room)

      • Town hall follow up March 15th from Noon – 1 p.m. (Pine Room)
      • Town hall follow up March 16th from Noon – 1 p.m. (Pine Room)

A reminder about town hall meetings:  These meetings are being convened for college staff, faculty, and administrators to come together (much like opening day) to discuss critical issues at the college.  These town halls will be video-taped and posted for anyone who is unable to attend and all materials shared at these town halls will be available online for your reference.  Each town hall will have two follow-up sessions for continued conversation and to provide opportunity for those who couldn’t attend the town hall to participate in conversation about the topic.  These town halls will be interactive with sharing of data / information at the beginning of the meeting followed with questions and activities for all of us to brainstorm and engage in together.

And, last but not least, here are some upcoming dates for Pizza with the President for the winter term to share with your students. There will be one each month.

                    • Pizza with the President:
                      • Students and I already shared a Pizza event this past Friday, January 5th
                      • February 8th from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. by the Fireplace in the SU by the Daily Grind
                      • March 5th from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. by the Fireplace in the SU by the Daily Grind

And, since I haven’t seen many of you over the past few weeks, let me remind you of how grateful I am for all of your work and dedication to our students at Green River.  Together we help students’ dreams come true.  We show them every day that Green River College believes in them!

Looking forward to seeing everyone around campus as the term continues!

                    Sincerely,
                    Suzanne M. Johnson, Ph.D.
                    President, Green River College
