Congratulations to our Five Achievement Scholarship Award Recipients

By Alexa Plourde, January 28, 2019

We are delighted to share with you the names of our five current student achievement scholarship award recipients for winter 2019 Quarter

  • Shubhrojit Bhattacharya, India
  • Chee Jain Tey, Malaysia
  • Saki Yoshizawa, Japan
  • Seunggi Kang, South Korea
  • Felix Tanjaya, Indonesia

These students were chosen from a competitive pool of applicants.

Shubhrojit is majoring in Aerospace Engineering and is planning to apply to Iowa State, Kansas State, Cornell, MIT, Yale, or Princeton.  He told us that his work as Peer Mentor and Math Tutor “has helped him grow so much as a person!”

Chee Jian is studying Mechanical Engineering and would like to transfer to a four-year college that is highly ranked for his major like Berkeley or UCLA.  He shared with us that, “GRC really cares about the participation of international students in college activities that enhance the college life. The most important thing is, at GRC, I am able to build international friendships.”

Felix is majoring in Computer Science but he is more passionate about business. He said, “because the world is now developing with all the advanced technology, I want to also learn about it and to contribute to the society.”  He would like to transfer to a good college, get his degree, and start his own company one day. He feels quite appreciated to receive this scholarship.

Saki’s focus is Communications.  Her plan is transfer to a four-year university to study journalism after graduating from GRC.  Saki’s most memorable experience at GRC was her first time volunteering for CORE in Fall 2017.  In her words,  “I met so many highly motivated volunteers who inspired me to break out of my shell and grow as much as I can.  I really appreciate how diverse GRC is and how this wonderful environment created who I am today.”
