Foundation for Success Program Specialist
My college journey started at Shoreline Community College, where I majored in Graphic Design. An instructor scared me by saying most graphic designers need to freelance and are never sure about their job for more than a few months in the future. He might have been joking but I decided that was too stressful for me and changed to a general AA-DTA transfer to UW Seattle. I graduated with a degree in Communication and a focus in Public Relations. Since graduating I’ve had five jobs, some related to my degree and most not, including product management, developing corporate training programs, managing a bulk garden supply store, and ESL tutoring. Working with students is the most rewarding and motivating career path I have found, so I have been elated to work with the diverse and inspiring international student body at Green River College.
At Green River College, I am a Program Coordinator for Foundation for Success. This program connects experienced international students, called Peer Mentors, to first-quarter international students in order to make the transition to studying in the United States more rewarding and successful. My role is to ensure the mentee-mentor bond begins and develops smoothly. I enjoy helping to build an environment of collaboration, connecting students to campus resources, and seeing our students be well-positioned to succeed at Green River and beyond.
