SUSI participants show off Follow on project

The SUSI on Women’s Leadership will provide a rigorous curriculum that focuses on Leadership for Service & Social Change and Women’s Empowerment. To ensure that participants apply what they learn during the institute and give back to society, participants are encouraged to develop social service follow-on projects for implementation upon their return to their home countries. Participants will receive a $100 grant to use as seed money to implement a follow-on project. They can develop group or individual projects on topics of their choice. They will submit a project plan during of the institute for comment and feedback.

Follow-on Project Ideas

  • Arrange training sessions for rural girls on how to realize their full potential, importance of education, and study abroad
  • Organize meetings with students and famous hardworking and successful people
  • Provide classes for students who are interested in leadership
  • Plan and organize a seminar for 10 deprived young females to empower the participants, help them explore ways to overcome social barriers, and to develop leadership skills
  • Create a documentary on Human Trafficking for distribution on social media to create awareness and prevent human trafficking
  • Open an Educational Training Center to provide discussion platforms, develop leadership and public speaking skills, and create financial leadership and economic empowerment lectures for women
  • Open free education centers for students who want to improve language and computer skills
  • Create jobs in rural areas for unemployed young women through opening handicraft shops
  • Develop women’s rights workshops for young women in urban areas
  • Developed an English language program (computer and software, books, and tutors) at an English Corner for students who want to improve their English skills
  • Help tuberculosis children through playing with them, giving clothes and gifts, and teaching English and Arabic
  • Promote entrepreneurship among women in rural areas through conducting a 2-day workshop to explain the basics of running a business and writing a business plan
  • Work with women who have disabled children: provide psychological support & practical classes in cooking and technology, and provide food, clothes, financial support
