GRCC's
International Students Excel
in Competitive Sports
Julie Heltne from Oslo, Norway
takes the ball down field.
Green River students have the opportunity to compete in twelve sports through the NW Athletic Association for community colleges. Playing against 34 other colleges in the Pacific Northwest, the Green River
"Gators" field women's
teams in cross country
running, soccer, golf, volleyball,
basketball, fastpitch softball, and
track and field. Men are organized
in distance running, basketball,
golf, track and field and baseball.
In 2011, Green River international students played a significant part of the success of many of the local teams. In golf,
Madeleine Ottosson
from Gothenburg, Sweden was the #1
female golfer during the fall season.
Julie Heltne and Cecile
Koldercup
from Oslo, Norway brought their
European flair to American soccer.
Sin Yee Ang and Annette Yong
from Singapore both earned spots on
the cross country and softball team
respectively.
Fandy Cendrajaya
also from Singapore has competed for
the men's track and cross country
teams.
International students who have a background in competitive sports can participate in Green River athletics if they are taking university transfer courses, can demonstrate a competitive ability and have a physicians report stating that are healthy enough to play. For more information students can contact:
Director of Athletics, Bob Kickner.
