New Construction at IP!

If any of you come in to the office this summer,
things will look a little different! There are construction
workers with hard hats on working all over the property.
You will still be able to park and enter the IVD building
through the same area, but parking will be harder to
find. We are adding on to our office and it is due to
be open sometime in September. So far the construction
workers have taken down trees and bulldozed up the ground
behind the IVD building. As I write this they are removing
the siding from the back of the building. And let me
add, they are not doing it quietly! Here is a picture
of the back of the building where the new addition will
be.
Short term programs update
This is the biggest Summer quarter we have ever
had! In addition to the regular IESL and academic
students that arrived for summer, we are also
hosting students from three short term programs.
Eight French students arrived March 26th and have
been doing internships in the area. It has been a successful
trip for them so far. They will be here until mid August,
and I hear they have adapted well to American culture.
Pictured are the eight French students, and on the far right
is Dr. Barry Bannister and Leana Hagen. They were
touring the Flight Museum the day the picture was
taken.
"MUST" is a group of 19 students and their
teacher from China. They arrived June 15th and will
be attending the IESL classes all summer.
The USA Leadership Institute with 18 students participating
from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India came June
29th and 30th they are staying for four weeks.
Of course all 45 students and one teacher are placed in our valuable host
family homes for the duration of their stay. Thank you
to all who participated in the short term Summer programs.
If you're interested in being a host family for the Danish
program in the Fall, please e-mail and let us know.
Thank you!
Metro Bus Passes
Did you know? Your student can purchase a monthly
Metro Pass or Metro coupon book with individual bus
tickets at the cashier’s office. It is located on the
2nd floor of the Lindbloom Student Center. (LSC building)
The first 300 students per quarter (200 summer quarter)
purchasing a metro bus pass will receive a subsidy of
$20.00 toward that purchase. They will be asked to present
their student ID card at the time of purchase. Host
Families cannot purchase these, it has to be the student.
Refer A Friend
If you know someone that has been thinking about
becoming a great host family like you, please tell them
about our program. The first thing they would need to
do is come to a “New” host family orientation. Sarah
conducts them about once a month. The next one is
July 30th. They can call the
information line at 253-833-9111 extension 2129 to find
out about the next meeting time if they miss that
one. When they complete the
process and become one of our host families, we will
give you a Starbucks gift card. Thank you for referring
quality host families!

Terri's Trivia Challenge
How many international students do you think are
enrolled at GRCC? E-mail your guess to
Terri.
The correct answer will be published in the next
HostPost eNewsletter.
Last month's answer; We currently have193 host
families!
Thank you to the 14 people who participated in the
trivia challenge. Congratulations to Mary Zlavog and
Cynthia Gabayan for coming the closest by guessing
200. It surprised us that most guesses were well
under 100.
