American and international students share their experiences with getting involved
in activities on and off campus:

Whistler Ski & Snowboard Trip: It was my first time to Canada
and I love snowboarding so it was just an experience of a lifetime.
The friends that I went with were a blast to be around and the whole
trip was out of this world.
Campus Clean-Up: It was a lot of fun going around the campus
and making it look better. With all the clean-up we did that day, it
felt like I really made a difference. It was one of the most rewarding
things I have done around campus.

Students of Color Conference: When you hear the word “conference”
you might think that it’s going to be a boring talk/speech…BUT, this
conference is a REALLY great investment for our minds. It opens up a
new perspective. Moreover, it is SO MUCH FUN. I get to meet a lot of
different people in this conference and make friends with them. So,
I’d definitely go again this year to make more friends!!!
Seattle Trip: As international students, this is new strange
place! So, get to know your surroundings by exploring Seattle! It’s
so much fun when we go to a new place, see new things and make new friends!
I loved the Seattle Trip!!!

Lunar New Year Celebration: We had a fashion show with traditional
clothes from all over the world, Chinese dance performance, and a performance
by our school’s Step Dance team. This was really awesome because any
students (international and domestic) could join and have a great time
together. They should go this event because they can meet new friends
and know a new culture.
CORE: This is an overnight trip for new international students
to make new friends to be ready for their first new quarter and to get
useful information in order to live on campus. This is really fun and
a good opportunity to adapt to a new environment in a different country.
Besides that, students can ask questions to international and domestic
student leaders.

Gator Bash: This event is to celebrate the end of the year!
It’s week-long event consisting of awesome bands, free food, big blow
up toys, and lots of other activities that all the students can participate
in during their lunch time. There is no reason not to come out and enjoy
the sun and fun!
Drive-In Movie: This year we are having a Drive-In Movie on
campus as well as in the community. The two movies we will show on campus
are “The Hangover” and “Sherlock Holmes.” I am excited to just lie under
the stars and watch good movies on campus with all of my friends. Plus,
the big screen is definitely more intriguing than anything found in
anyone’s living room.

Welcome Social event at Campus Corner Apartments: I like this
event because this is a very good change for me to meet and greet new
students, hang out, and play some fun games to learn about each other.
Seattle Trip: This event helped me learn more about Seattle,
the city that I just arrived in. I also loved going to Boeing Field!

Big Spring Concert: We are hosting the Blue Scholars, Common
Market and Massive Monkees. These groups are well known in the Seattle
area as well as across the nation. These entertainers show the many
elements of culture, music and dance that the Pacific Northwest has
to offer. This is a great opportunity for students to explore the many
aspects of hip hop in today’s urban Seattle area and I’m really excited
to go to the concert!
Students of Color Conference: This is an opportunity for students
to explore the struggle of historically underrepresented students from
community and technical colleges from around the state. Understanding
the importance of diversity in our community is key in order to create
a more inclusive environment.

Mohawk Northern Plastics Inc. (visit to a local business firm):
I am so excited to come to see with my own eyes how real people in the
real world manufacture industrial products such as the plastic bags
for fresh and frozen food. No wonder this would offer me a refreshing
experience from the classes at school.
Intramurals: I am glad I have the chance to join Intramurals
Indoor Soccer every Friday just to watch my friends from different countries
get together and play one of the most popular sports in the world. You’ll
find these days exciting and full of connections.

Gator Bash: I am sure it’s gonna be super awesome with a lot
of activities that students can join. AND it’s gonna be for 1 whole
week so there will be enough opportunities for students.
Summer Trip to Hawai’i: This trip was a good deal for students
for the price. You can go together with your friends and everything
is already set for you (hotel, airline tickets, etc.)

CORE: I was so excited to have CORE in Spring to help new
international students meet new friends and mingle with student leaders.
Cultural Fair: Though many international students study at
GRCC sometimes it’s hard to find time to have strong connections between
domestic and international students. So, through the Cultural Fair,
students can learn new cultures and customs from Asia and European cultures.
It’s really educational and a good method to open student’s eyes.

White Water Rafting: You get to travel through the ‘heart’
of Washington to the city of Wenatchee. Along the way, you get to see
beautiful scenery! Nestled in the mountains is White River, where you’ll
get to brave the turbulent (but safe) waters in a river raft. Over 6
miles of river!
Casino Night: You get to gamble even when you’re underage
and it’s legal because we’re playing with fake money! You can meet lots
of people, eat free food and have free drinks. If you’re a fan of card
games, you’ll love Casino Night like I did!

Friday Night Movie Night at Campus Corner Apartments: It’s
always great to be in the company of great friends and meeting new friends
and watching a movie together. We watched a scary movie so we screamed
together and then laughed about it!
Twilight Tour: We’re going to go tour the place where Twilight
the movies/books takes place. It is going to be awesome to be surrounded
in the ‘vampire/wolf’ atmosphere that helped spark the movies/books
as well as to see if Forks, Washington is really like the movie.

Gator Bash: A week-long event that includes bands, artists
and a lot of fun events and activities. It is a week filled with fun
activities for students who are finishing classes.
Leavenworth: This is a full day’s trip that includes family
and friends. We went to a town called Leavenworth where they’ve created
a Bavarian Village and the town reminds me of Germany. We ate a lot
and shopped a lot and at the end of the night, we saw the Christmas
tree lighting festival.

Summer Trip to Hawai’i: It’s a good opportunity to take a
break from Auburn and have 5 days of fun in Hawai’i. It will be fun
to explore another environment and who doesn’t want to go to Hawai’i?!!!
Mediterranean Buffet: This event was great to socialize with
other students more than usual and explore another kind of food. It’s
at the end of the quarter so students can relax and enjoy delicious
food right before finals.

Gator Bash: This is going to be an awesome event. I’m really
looking forward to it because it is an entire week packed with fun stuff
to do. There will be several bands to watch perform for free which is
great for a college student’s budget.
Walk-in Movie on the Commons: I’m looking forward to this
event as I will get a chance to hang out with friends and watch 2 awesome
movies under the stars!

Pumpkin Carving Event: I love this event because it’s something
that I’ve never done before. Especially for international students,
it will be a ‘new’ experience!
Cafe Night at Campus Corner Apartments: This is my absolute
favorite event. You get to listen to great music, just hang out with
your friends…talk. I like that coziness and closeness. It’s just a great
opportunity to enjoy LIFE!

Snowboarding Trip: As an international student, experiencing
something we have never tried before is valuable. I was able to enjoy
a beautiful view and get to know more people which is exciting for an
international student like me.
Skagit Valley Tulip Festival: Going on this trip gave me the
opportunity to explore something new AND pretty. I had the chance to
meet so many new students on this trip and see beautiful flowers, too!

USA
Student Rally at the Capitol: I thought this trip was great
and super important because students were given a chance to stand up
for their education in front of Washington’s government and be an active
influence in the decision-making.
Fall Fling: Having blow-up toys, music shows, food and activities
really eases the anxiety of new school and a new year. And it’s FREE!
Green River cares that much about welcoming students to start their
education.

Senior Citizen’s Valentine’s Day Dance: I was initially excited
about this event because I enjoy ballroom dancing but after dancing
with some of the senior citizens and listening to them share old memories
with loved ones, I began to realize how rewarding it is to get involved
with our campus and community.
Campus Corner Apartments Welcome Social: This event is held
at the beginning of each quarter at the campus apartments to welcome
new residents. There is food, music and tons of games. It is a great
way to make new friends and get plugged in to the campus community.

Oceans Movie Trip: I am really stoked to go see the movie
Oceans
with a group from school. The movie looks incredible: it has amazing
footage of beautiful scenery and wildlife, it promotes environmental
awareness, and it’s even narrated by Pierce Bronsnan! It should be a
fun and educational opportunity to socialize with other students.
Gator
Bash: This is the spring’s weeklong festival-style event on campus and
it’s going to be amazing! Last year, when the event was called Spring-a-Palooza,
I had a blast! It was my favorite event of the year. The school brings
in great live music from many talented artists, hosts many interactive
activities for students to get involved in, and has lots of opportunities
for free food! I have a feeling that Gator Bash just might be the best
event of the year.
