Paralitigator
Certificate
Green River Community College is the first to offer a certificate in Paralitigation in Washington State. This program includes courses in
general legal office skills. Unlike other paralegal programs, the program
also focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a career as
a litigation support professional.
Paralitigator graduates may work for:
attorneys
courts
government agencies
insurance companies
real estate companies
other private industries
military
private paralegal services
When can new students enroll?
You may enroll in the Paralitigator program at the beginning of any
quarter. The program hours are flexible with day, evening, and some online
classes.
Prerequisites
Complete an application to Green River Community College, complete the
COMPASS assessment, and meet with an advisor.
A
GED or high school diploma is highly recommended before entering the
program. Communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills are
vital.
Attend a quarterly Paralitigator advising session.
How long does the program take?
It depends on you. If you attend full time, the certificate requirements
can be completed in three to four quarters. If you attend part time,
completion will depend on how many credits you earn each quarter.
Special fees
Courses requiring special equipment have additional fees.
Personal requirements for success
A paralitigator student should be proficient at
multi-tasking, be able to meet deadlines and have an
above average command of the English language, both written and verbal.
Does the program transfer to four-year schools?
Classes in this program are primarily professional/technical. All
transferability of classes to four-year institutions is at the discretion
of the receiving institution. Students should contact an advisor at the
college to which they intend to transfer.

Employment outlook
This is a new certificate and is the first of its kind in Washington
state. Therefore specific employment data is not available. Based on the
market research, employment prospects for civil litigation professionals
is one of the fastest growing fields in the legal profession. Currently,
there is no state licensing requirement for any legal support
professionals.
Salary range
Median annual earnings for graduates of area paralegal programs was
$24,182 to $28,485 for the period of 1997–2000. Salary is also determined
by other factors, such as skills and experience.
