The Scholarship Application for 2008-09 academic year is available on-line and in the Financial Aid Office. What are Foundation Scholarships? Foundation Scholarships are available to assist you in following your educational and personal goals. There are four categories of Foundation scholarships: Merit Based, Need Based, Program Based and Single Parent. How can I apply for Foundation Scholarships? To apply for Foundation Scholarships you need to fill out an application, supplemental questionnaire, and include one to three letter(s) of recommendation (utilizing the form provided), and your college and/or high school transcripts. For further explanation and additional information, click here. All scholarship applications are due in the Financial Aid Office by 4:00 p.m. on April 30, 2008. How are scholarships awarded? Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, financial need, program of study, or a combination of the above. Additionally, some scholarships are set-aside for single parents. Many scholarships have additional requirements as well. Scholarships are provided to the Foundation by individuals and corporations who specify the award criteria. The selection process is managed by the Foundation in conjunction with the Financial Aid Office. Some scholarships are awarded to continuing students and others are specifically designed for incoming freshman. How will I know if I am selected for a scholarship? Letters of notification are sent to all applicants whether or not they receive a scholarship. Everyone should receive a letter by the end of July 2008. Once you receive your letter, you will have 30 days to notify the Foundation as to whether or not you will accept the scholarship. If a student decides not to accept a scholarship, it will be awarded to an alternate student or will be reopened for applications. How are scholarships paid? Foundation scholarships are applied to your student account in September. Scholarship funds may be used for books and tuition and fees. Even if your books and tuition are covered by another source, Foundation scholarships may not be used for living expenses. If your scholarship arrives after you have already paid your bill for the semester, you may receive a refund check by the Student Accounts Office for the amount of the scholarship after it is processed. Normally, the College must confirm that you are registered for at least 12 credits before payment will be made. If you know that you will be enrolled less than 12 credit hours, you will need to contact the Foundation Office to make sure you are still eligible to receive your scholarship, as some scholarships require full-time status. |
