Academic Standards Policy
The Academic Standards Progress and Policy applies to all students enrolled in credit courses earned through Green River College. Students who have either a term and/or cumlative grade point average (GPA) below a 2.0 are placed on academic standards. The goal is to ensure undergraduates students complete their degree and/or certificate programs in a timely manner in order to make the most efficient use of instructional resources, and provide capacity within the institituon for additional students.
In 2019-2020, Green River College placed a hold on the suspension process as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting fall term of 2024 the college will be implenting the suspension process for all students.
**The academic standards progress and policy has been established in accordance with RCW 28B.10.695.
- Good: Cumulative GPA above 2.0 and current term GPA above 2.0
- Warning: Cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 OR quarterly GPA is less than 2.0
- Intervention: Cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 for the second consecutive quarter OR quarterly GPA is less than 2.0
- Probation: Cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 for the third consecutive quarter OR quarterly GPA is less than 2.0
- Suspension: Cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 OR quarterly GPA is less than 2.0 for multiple consecutive quarters

Steps to Remove Block
- Warning:Not blocked, encouraged to connect with assigned advisor.
- Intervention:
- Complete level 2 self-reflection survey
- Schedule an appointment with advisor
- Probation:
- Complete level 3 self-reflection survey
- Schedule an appointment with advisor
- Attend workshop
- Suspension
- Suspended for one quarter (cannot take any classes at GRC)
- Complete and submit Suspension Appeal form
- Committee reviews and approves/denies reinstatement
- Schedule appointment with advisor
