What is one thing you wish you knew about college before you started as a student?

I wish I knew how to study and what to study. One of my first classes my freshman year was Oceanography.  ​Before my first test, I memorized details about the text book, like who wrote it and when it was published but didn't spend time learning the material. I did not do well on that test. Once I figured out what worked best for my study habits and learning style, college made more sense for me. It took time to figure this out, so don't give up if you get frustrated, you will get it!

What do you like to do when you're not working?

Spending time with my family, my pets, running and cooking

Biography

I can't imagine working in any other profession than community college advising. I love meeting with students, watching them grow, learn, and accomplish their academic and career goals. Prior to working in academic advising, I tried many other positions including working with primates!  I also pursued other jobs in sales, property management, administrative support, special education and more. I had to try on a few different professional hats before I found the one that fit.
