Lost or Stolen Mobile Device Procedure
All GRC employees and students must immediately report the loss or theft of their GRC provided devices (or their personal device if it contained sensitive GRC data) to Campus Safety, the IT Helpdesk, and their supervisor, Dean, or faculty advisor.
The steps below can be performed concurrently. Please provide the requested information and initiate recovery or wipe procedures as quickly as possible.
- REPORT THE LOSS
- Notify your supervisor/Dean
- Notify Campus Safety
- Notify the IT Helpdesk
- INFORMATION TO PROVIDE
- Device manufacturer and type
- Owner of the device (i.e., personal or college-owned asset)
- Location device was lost or stolen
- Date and time device was lost or stolen
- Method of encryption
- College data stored on the device
- RECOVER OR WIPE THE DEVICE
- If the device has a tracking capability (such as FrontDoor, LoJack for Laptops or Find My iPhone) use it to locate the device.
- If the device can be safely recovered, do so. If retrieving the device could be dangerous (in the possession of a criminal), notify the police of the location.
- If the device cannot be retrieved or location cannot be determined, execute a command to wipe the device (using Exchange ActiveSync, Find My iPhone, LoJack for Laptops, etc.).
