Almusawi named Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Marwa Almusawi will drop the “interim” from her title after being named Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Her appointment was announced by Dani Chang, dean, Campus Life.

“As an immigrant, a refugee, first generation college student in the United States and being bilingual (Arabic), [Marwa] deeply connects with and is well versed in the needs of our student who come from marginalized communities and understands the cultural dynamics of being a Green River Gator,” Chang said in an email to campus.

“She will spend the summer working with her team to welcome new students, train new student leaders, set continued vision for the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and continue to grow strong roots and a firm foundation for the office in order to continue to weave equity and inclusion into the fabric of our campus.”

A five-year Green River veteran, Almusawi started her role at in partnership with AmeriCorps with the Retention Project Mentoring program joining the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as a project coordinator. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and liberal studies from Western Washington University.
