Intensive English Program: Levels 1 - 3
New students are tested and placed into the appropriate level using a reliable diagnostic test that evaluates the students' skills in listening, reading, vocabulary, writing, and grammar.
Green River College offers a dynamic and comprehensive Intensive English Program (IEP) designed for international and English as a Second Language (ESL) students and professionals who want to develop and improve their formal and practical English skills. Students will receive top-quality instruction and the main outcome of this IEP program is for students to meet and exceed their English language learning goals.
What to Expect:
Green River College’s Intensive English Program (IEP) is designed to help you develop formal and communicative English language skills, which are useful in a variety of global contexts both inside and outside the classroom. English skills development will include academic activities such as reading and writing, discussion and lecture listening, research and presentation exercises as well as non-academic activities to help students navigate life in the US.
Courses taken in Levels 1-3 in our IEP program do not apply toward a student’s academic degree requirements. However, courses taken in levels 4 and 5, students have the opportunity to take academic classes with their IEP class in preparation for academic transfer classes with American students.

“After studying English (IEP) at Green River for a year, I then studied another 2 years in the academic program. In 2013, I transferred to UC Berkeley. I am now pursuing further education at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, the #1 School of veterinary medicine in the world. I cannot describe how much I appreciate Green River College. I would not have been able to make it this far without my time at GRC.”
