City restricts parking in neighborhoods near campus
By Philip Denman, January 1, 2019
Faculty, staff and students used to parking in the neighborhoods surrounding the main Auburn campus will have to find a new place to park.
Following a recent parking study, the City of Auburn will implement a new Restricted Parking Zone (RPZ) in the Lea Hill Village neighborhood north of Green River College (across the street from College's west entrance) starting Jan. 2, 2019.
Under the new rules, on-street parking in the Lea Hill Village neighborhood is prohibited from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, without a residential permit. Vehicles without permits can still park in this restricted area all day on weekends and holidays, and from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays.
According to Derek Ronnfeldt, director, Campus Safety & Transportation, Auburn Police parking control officers will begin enforcement starting Jan. 2 and that all other parking regulations remain in effect.
"The RPZ parking permit system will go into effect by January 2, 2019, for the beginning of the Winter Quarter at Green River College," Ronnfeldt said in an email to campus announcing the changes. "We are notifying our campus community about these upcoming parking changes so that students who choose to park off campus are aware that this neighborhood will no longer be available as an option for parking."
Property owners can receive one permit per vehicle, up to three vehicles, plus one guest permit. Residents can apply for a permit online on the City of Auburn's Parking Program page.
