Summer hours to start July 9

By Philip Denman, June 27, 2018

Green River College will transition to summer operating hours beginning July 9. The general hours of business operations will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with the campus closed on Fridays. For a list of individual department, office or program hours, please visit the GRC Hours of Operations page.

According to Marshall Sampson, vice president, Human Resources & Legal Affairs, the change was made in conjunction with College Council to provide faculty and staff a chance to balance their work and personal lives.

What does this mean to the public and our students? We will continue to provide support and services through the summer, but limited to a Monday to Thursday work week.

What does this mean to you as an employee? Although the college will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., work days will consist of four, 10 hour days from Monday to Thursday.

  • 30-minute meal and 15-minute rest breaks must still be taken in compliance with our respective collective bargaining agreements, and/or state and federal regulations.
  • Employees who cannot work the four (4) 10 hour shifts should contact their direct manager and their Employee & Labor Relations person. Employees who cannot work the shift may be defaulted to five (5) 8 hour shifts.
  • Employees may request of their manager a schedule adjustment (for WFSE employees, this is 7.3 (B)(4)) at any time.  Schedule adjustments will be considered by the manager in coordination with Human Resources and may be granted if business needs can be met.
  • Employees may request vacation time using the same college and departmental policies and procedures in place.

Who should I contact if I have questions? Please reach out to your supervisor first. Supervisors should contact the appropriate Employee & Labor Relations Manager in the Human Resources office to make sure that any proposed schedule changes meet with federal, state, and local laws as well as negotiated agreements.

When will it end? Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Sept. 4, following the Labor Day holiday.
