Are you interested in majoring in pre-health and science?
This is information for students interested in studying biology, chemistry, environmental and earth sciences, and geology. Any student who is considering a pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, pre-dentistry, pre-veterinary studies, or similar professional degrees in a health science field are also included with these majors.
Students with these pre-health and other science majors will follow the Associate in Science Track 1 (AS Track 1) degree at Green River College. For this degree, students will take a variety of coursework to prepare for university transfer, including 1-2 English classes, one year of calculus, one year of general chemistry, one year of biology or physics, and additional classes in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
Here are samples of the academic plans for students in either biology or chemistry majors:
Tips for students in these majors
- Prepare for your English, math, and chemistry placement tests to do your best and accurately reflect your knowledge on the tests
- Utilize GRC tutoring resources for your English, math, and science courses
- Attend the twice-a-year Transfer Fairs and research potential transfer universities early to learn about their different admission requirements
- Meet with your advisor multiple times a year to plan out your coursework and discuss transfer goals
- Get involved in extracurriculars (clubs, leadership, volunteering, etc.) while at GRC
Transfer destinations
Almost all universities are going to have science majors like biology and chemistry. Some might have specific degrees for pre-med or similar majors. Not all universities will have the less common science majors like environmental science, geology, biochemistry, etc., so doing university transfer research early is very important.
Some top transfer universities for the past few years for our pre-health and science students have included:
- University of Washington - Seattle
- University of California
- Washington State University
- Purdue University
- University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
- University of Minnesota - Twin Cities
