Melanie Kaneshiro
Student Activities Staff - International Programs
I grew up in Santa Barbara County in southern California but have lived in Washington for over 30 years now. After high school, I lived in Japan and taught English. Then I returned to the US and got my bachelor's degree in Japanese language and literature at the University of Washington. Go Huskies!!! I have had the opportunity to travel to over 20 countries. For a year and a half, my family lived in Singapore. Before serving on the Activities Team at GRC, I worked as an academic adviser with international programs for many years. I have been the Adviser for the Fellowship of International Students (FISH Club) at GRC for the past decade. This faith-based club is open to all GRC students.
I love international students, travel, and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest! I am married to a wonderful man from Hawaii and we have two adult children who now live in Seattle. Over the years we have hosted many international students at our hobby farm in Auburn where I keep horses and chickens. I feel so fortunate to work with students from many nations as I love to learn from them. It is my great pleasure helping students to adjust culturally, to be successful, and to experience many new adventures along the way!
