Non-Credit Certificate Terms
Non-credit certificate programs through Green River Continuing Education represent programs of study in specific content areas. One does not earn academic credit in a non-credit certificate program, and the courses cannot be transferred towards an academic degree.
The following terms relate to non-credit certificate programs through Green River Continuing Education:
Enrollment/Admission
There is no formal entry requirement or admissions process for non-credit certificate programs. Participants may simply enroll in any of the certificate courses, as long as they meet the prerequisites listed.
Completion Requirements
Each certificate program is comprised of several courses that must be completed. Please refer to specific program requirements and course descriptions found elsewhere on this website. To successfully complete a certificate program, participants must attend at least 80 percent of each required course (verified by student sign-in sheets) and satisfy any additional requirements specified in the course outline. Participants who do not meet course attendance or other specified course requirements will not receive a certificate of completion at the end of the certificate program.
Awarding of Certificate/Time Limits
When a certificate program is taken through a series, the certificate of completion will be automatically granted if course requirements have been met. When certificate programs are taken by completing individual courses (not through a series), it is the participant's responsibility to request a certificate within three years of starting the program.
Certificate Program Changes
Participants must satisfy all requirements of a particular non-credit certificate program that were in place when they began the program before the certificate will be awarded. When a change is made to a certificate program (such as courses deleted, new courses added, courses modified, or change in number of hours), participants have the option of either completing the program they began (with substitution courses if one or more of the originals are not available) or moving to and completing all requirements of the new program. Regardless of the program the participant decides to follow, the total number of class hours required in that program must be met.
Substitutions
Program administrators, at their sole discretion, may allow substitutions of courses.
Transfer of Classes from Other Institutions
Only courses taken through Green River Continuing Education fulfill certificate program requirements, unless otherwise approved.
Corrections/Changes/Cancellations
Every effort is made to ensure that class information and fees are accurate. However; changes, corrections or cancellations of courses, and changes in course fees may occur. Green River Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel any class or certificate program.
Adult Family Home FAQs
How much does the Adult Family Home (AFH) administrator training course at Green River College cost? $779
Is the AFH administrator training course at Green River College offered online or in person? The AFH administrator training course at Green River College is 100% online with no in-person requirements.
What is Green River College’s AFH administrator training course schedule? Fridays and Saturdays from 8AM to 4:15PM on Zoom. Please note, there is one mandatory training the Tuesday before the course begins from 6PM to 7:30PM on Zoom.
Do I have to attend the mandatory training the Tuesday before the course begins? Yes. During this training you will learn how to access Canvas, which is where you will view and submit your assignments.
What if I cannot attend the mandatory training? Please do your best to attend the training so that you can learn how to access Canvas.
Are the homework-help sessions on Tuesdays mandatory? No, they are not. There is only one mandatory Tuesday, which is the Canvas/Zoom orientation before the AFH administrator training course begins. During this time, you will learn to use Canvas to view and submit your assignments.
Do I have to take the English Proficiency assessment even though I am a native English speaker? Yes. Presently, Washington’s Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), requires that all students registered for the Adult Family Home Administrator training course prove their English Proficiency. This is regardless of English-speaking ability, country of origin or even advanced degrees.
What English Proficiency assessment does Green River College use? The College Success Test.
How do I prepare for the English proficiency assessment? You will receive a College Success test sample to review. Please note that the sample test only has five (5) questions, whereas the actual test has 25 questions.
How long does it take to complete the English Proficiency assessment? On average, between 90 to 120 minutes (an hour and a half to two hours).
How do I register for the English Proficiency assessment? You will receive the instructions after you have registered for the AFH Administrator training course.
Is the English Proficiency assessment offered online or in person? It is offered online, but it can be taken in person at Green River College’s Placement and Testing Center in Auburn, WA.
If I want to take the English Proficiency assessment in person, but don’t live near Green River College, what can I do? You can take the assessment at a community or technical college (CTC) in your area, but proctoring site fees may apply. Please contact us for more information,ce@greenriver.edu
Can I participate in the AFH administrator course using my phone? No. Please use either a desktop or a laptop computer with a working camera.
Does the AFH Administrator training course have an attendance policy? Yes, it does. You can only miss eight (8) hours of the 54-hour training course and still be eligible to receive your certificate. If you miss more than eight (8) hours, you will not be eligible to receive your certificate and will have to retake the course.
Do I have to be on camera during the AFH Administrator training course? Yes. You are required to be on camera for the duration of the 54-hour training course. Please make sure your desktop or laptop computer has a working camera. Prepare as though you were attending the course in person. The instructor will provide lunch breaks and will share this information with you during the first class.
