About the Program

Complete Green River's EKG program in one quarter, then immediately start working as a Cardiac Monitor/Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician and save lives!

The Cardiac Monitor/Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician program is a one quarter program that prepares students with the knowledge, experience, exposure and confidence to monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms as well as perform diagnostic testing to assess heart rhythm and rate.

This program will include fundamental information on anatomy and physiology of the heart and cardiovascular system, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical legal ethics, and communication, and intensive EKG monitor strip interpretations. Additionally, you will spend time in the lab setting working with monitoring equipment and observing in the clinical environment working with Cardiac Monitor Technicians.

Job Duties

Typical job duties for an EKG Technician include:

  • Operate EKG machines to record the electrical activity of the heart.
  • Monitor the EKG machine during the procedure to ensure the quality and consistency of the recorded signals.
  • Identify and troubleshoot any technical issues with the equipment.
  • Analyze EKG readings to identify abnormalities or irregularities in the heart's electrical activity.
  • Accurately document and record EKG data, including the patient's information, date, and time of the procedure.
