Timely Warning Notifications

Under the Jeanne Clery Act and HEOA, Green River College is required to provide a timely warning or immediate notification of incidents and crimes, which have not yet been mitigated.

When an incident arises, we will keep you up to date to provide you with information for you to manage your personal safety and security. Campus Crime Alerts are released by the Green River Campus Safety Department when certain crimes are reported on Green River College's Clery Geography, and in compliance with federal law. These timely warnings provide information about campus safety situations, and allow campus community members to take precautions for personal safety. All crimes should be reported as soon as possible to Green River Campus Safety

TIMELY WARNING: Burglary/Campus Corner Apartments (CCA), GRC Main Campus

Date:  04-28-20

DETAILS:  The Auburn Police Department is investigating the Burglary of an apartment in Campus Corner Apartments (CCA) in which several personal items were taken.  The Burglary occurred at CCA on GRC’s main campus on 04-28-20 between the hours of midnight -12:22 am.  

During the investigation, it was discovered that an unknown male cut the screen of an apartment’s window but did not gain entry.  Approximately 15 minutes later, the male entered a different apartment through an unlocked door and stole several personal items.  The suspect was described as having an average build, wearing blue jeans, a gray sweatshirt, and carrying a black backpack.

TIMELY WARNING: Motor Vehicle Theft/ Parking Lot P-5, Southwest Side of Campus/GRC Main Campus

Date:  02-28-20

DETAILS:  The Auburn Police Department is investigating a Motor Vehicle Theft that occurred on the Southwest side of campus in parking lot P-5 on GRC’s main campus on 02-27-20 between the hours of   1:00 pm and 4:10 pm. 

According to the victim, he last saw his truck parked in parking lot P-5 on 02-27-20 at approximately 1:00 pm and upon his return on 02-27-20 at approximately 4:10 pm, he discovered his truck was missing.  The truck was locked.  Campus Safety officers searched the area for the suspects and the vehicle with negative results.

TIMELY WARNING: Motor Vehicle Theft/Auburn Center Parking Lot, GRC Auburn Center

Date:  02-07-20

DETAILS:  The Auburn Police Department is investigating the Motor Vehicle Theft of a Green River College student that occurred at the GRC Auburn Center on 02-07-20 between the hours of 08:44 am -8:50 am. 

According to the student, he parked his truck in the main parking lot at the GRC Auburn Center on 02-07-20 at approximately 7:15 am.  Video showed a red pick-up truck enter the area at around 8:42 am and drive around the lot, then parking next to the victim’s truck. The truck then left the area minutes later. At approximately 8:49 am on the same date, a male returned to the area on foot and drove off in the victim’s truck.

TIMELY WARNING: Robbery/Public Property/Parking Lot West of GRC’s Kent Campus

DATE:  01-28-20

DETAILS:  The Kent Police Department is investigating the Robbery of a Green River student and a non-student that occurred in the parking lot west of GRC’s Kent Campus on 01-28-20 at approximately 3:45 pm.   

According to the student, he was walking in the parking lot west of GRC’s Kent Campus with a non-student when a group of 8-9 teenage males approached them.  The males began hitting the student, taking personal property from him.  The males then ran east toward the parking garage.  The suspects wore various clothing items to include jeans on several of them and different colored winter coats. TIMELY WARNING: Motor Vehicle Theft/ Parking Lot P-2, West Side of Campus/GRC Main Campus

DATE:  01-27-20

DETAILS:  The Auburn Police Department is investigating a Motor Vehicle Theft that occurred on the west side of campus in parking lot P-2 on GRC’s main campus on 01-27-20 between the hours of 6:20pm and 9:30pm. 

According to the victim, he parked his car in parking lot P-2 on 01-27-20 at 6:20 pm and upon his return on 01-27-20 at approximately 9:30 pm, he discovered his car was missing.  The car was locked.  Campus Safety officers searched the immediate area for the suspects with negative results.

On 01-27-20, at approximately 11:28 pm, the victim reported that the vehicle was found by police in downtown Auburn.  The investigation is ongoing but at present, there is no suspect information.

TIMELY WARNING: Attempted Robbery/Holman Library on GRC’s Main Campus

DATE:  01-24-20

DETAILS:  The Auburn Police Department is investigating the Attempted Robbery of a Green River student that occurred in Holman Library on GRC’s main campus on 01-24-20 at approximately 7:20 am. 

According to the student, he was sitting in a chair in the southeast corner of the second floor of Holman Library when a male approached him, grabbing his backpack and tablet from the footrest in front of the student and running away.  The student gave chase and the suspect dropped the student’s items before exiting the building.  The suspect was described as a college age male, approximately, 5’04”, wearing a blue beanie, denim pants, white hoodie, black shoes, and a white backpack.

TIMELY WARNING: Attempted Robbery/Public Property near Child Care Center, 124th St., GRC Main Campus

09-11-19

DETAILS:  The Auburn Police Department is investigating the Attempted Robbery of a Green River student that occurred on public property near GRC’s main campus on 09-11-19, at approximately 2:32 pm. 

According to the student, he was walking past the GRC Child Care Center on 124th St.  A male approached him, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a black hoodie.  The male had one hand in the pocket of the hoodie and with his other hand, tried grabbing at the victim, who had his wallet and cell phone in his hands.  The student was able to retreat across the street and get away from the suspect.  The suspect jumped into a mini-van that had been parked in the Child Care Center lot.  The mini-van was described as a red Toyota Sienna.  Two other people were seen in the mini-van.  The suspects then left the area.

There have been several reports of Robbery over the past year that have been reported to Campus Safety that have occurred on the main campus, in the public property adjacent to Green River College’s main campus, or off campus.  We want the campus community to be aware of these incidents and exercise extra caution when walking to and from Green River College from surrounding neighborhoods.

TIMELY WARNING: Attempted Robbery, Parking Lot P-1, GRC Main Campus

09-06-19

DETAILS:  The Auburn Police Department is investigating the Attempted Robbery of a Green River student that occurred in Parking Lot P-1 on GRC’s main campus on 09-04-19 at approximately 5:50 pm. 

According to the student, she was walking across Parking Lot P-1 on GRC’s main campus when a male approached her, asking for money.  When she stated she did not have any money, the suspect attempted to take her phone from her but was scared off when he saw people walking by.  The suspect is a male in his mid 20’s, wearing a gray sweatshirt with a white shirt underneath. The suspect had been seen earlier in the day in the Student Affairs Building and the Technology Center, checking doors and looking into windows.  Checks of each of the areas came back with negative results. 

There have been several reports of Robbery over the past year that have been reported to Campus Safety that have occurred on the main campus, in the public property adjacent to Green River College’s main campus, or off campus.  We want the campus community to be aware of these incidents and exercise extra caution when walking to and from Green River College from surrounding neighborhoods.

TIMELY WARNING: Theft/Possible Weapons Violation/city of Kent/Rutkowski Learning Center/GRC Main Campus

07-17-19

DETAILS:  The Kent Police Department is investigating the Theft of a Firearm that occurred in the city of Kent on 07-16-19 at approximately 8 pm. 

According to the Kent Police Department, a male (non-student) reported the theft of a firearm from his house that is located in the city of Kent.  During the taking of the initial report, the male listed his son as a possible person in the taking of the firearm, who was currently at Green River College’s main campus.  Officers went to Green River College, temporarily detained the student while conducting their investigation, and released him a short time later to his father.  No weapon was found and the son denied any knowledge of the theft.  The officer involved stated that he saw no reason for a lockdown and that the student posed no risk to the safety of the campus, however, they detained the student as a precaution as part of their overall investigation.  Kent Police is still investigating the theft of the firearm in the city of Kent.

Although this crime occurred in the city of Kent and no crime occurred on the campus at Green River College, Green River College’s Campus Safety feels it is important that our campus community is aware of any incident that may affect our campus.   Campus Safety is in contact with both the Auburn PD and the Kent PD in this ongoing investigation.

TIMELY WARNING: Attempted Aggravated Assault/Weapons Violation/Corner of 124th St. & 320th St. /Public Property Near Main Campus

07-12-19

DETAILS:  The Auburn Police Department is investigating an Attempted Aggravated Assault of a person not affiliated with Green River College that occurred on public property near GRC’s main campus (corner of 124th St. & 320th St.) on 07-12-19 at approximately 11:09 am. 

According to a witness, a male pulled up to the intersection of 124th St. & 320th St. in a vehicle and stopped at the light.  He then got out of his vehicle and went around to the passenger side of his car, where the passenger was also exiting the vehicle.  The driver pointed a gun at the passenger and forced him at gunpoint away from the vehicle.  The driver then got back into the vehicle and drove away.  The vehicle and the gun were recovered a short time later and the Auburn Police Department are still investigating the incident.  No arrests at this time.  It should be noted that at this time, there is no indication of anyone being involved in the incident is affiliated with Green River College.

TIMELY WARNING: Attempted Robbery/ Campus Corner Apartments, Main Campus

DATE:  01-11-19

DETAILS:  The Green River College Campus Safety Department is investigating the possible Attempted Robbery of a Green River student that occurred on GRC’s main campus on 01-08-19 at approximately 9:40 pm. 

According to a witness, she saw three college age males attempting to pull a backpack from a student’s shoulder while at Campus Corner Apartments.  The victim walked away and the witness drove the student from the area.  Campus Safety spoke with several people in the area and is still investigating.
