Placement Testing & First Term Information
Welcome to Green River College!
Your advising team is excited to welcome you to campus
Students who have met the English Proficiency Requirement are eligible to take academic classes in the first quarter.
If you submitted a TOEFL or IELTS score, it will determine what English class you will take.
See the approved placement levels for TOEFL or IELTS:
English 101
- TOEFL 72 (no section below 18)
- IELTS 6.5 (no section below 6.0)
English 99/Read 104

- TOEFL 64-71 (no section below 15)
- IELTS 6.0 (no section below 5.5)
English 101/117
- TOEFL 64-71 (Writing 17 or higher)
- IELTS 6.0 (Writing 5.0 or higher)
English 97
- TOEFL 61-63
- IELTS 5.5 (no section below 5.0
If you submitted any other score to meet the English proficiency requirement, you must take our English placement test.
Here are your next steps:
Step 1: Activate your ctcLink Student Account
Follow the instructions in Part 1 of the video to activate your ctcLink account.
If you are 16 or 17 years old stop after Part 1. Skip Step 2 (SFRA) and go to Step 3 - placement testing.
Step 2: If you are 18 or older, accept the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (SFRA) terms in your ctcLink Account
All new students ages 18 and above must complete this step. We cannot enroll you in classes until you complete this step. Complete the steps in Part 2 of the video: Watch the video.
Step 3: Take your English & Math Placement Tests
New Green River College students take two placement tests: the College Success Reading Assessment (English)* and the WAMAP (Math). You can take these tests online from your home. It is important to complete both tests as soon as possible because you cannot register for classes until you have completed the tests.
Please note! If you submitted a TOEFL or IELTS score, you do NOT need to take the English placement test.

Testing is a multi-step process, and many new students have questions about it. We are happy to help! If you have questions, email us at ipadvising@greenriver.edu.
You can retake the tests multiple times, and only your highest score will be recorded. Your scores on these tests do not impact your grades - this is for class placement only.
