About The Program

Gain a variety of different skills by earning your Emergency Room and Patient Care Technician Certificate at Green River College which combines our Nursing Assistant and MA-Phlebotomy programs.

This program consists of two stackable certificates, both the Nursing Assistant and MA-Phlebotomy certificates. Graduates will be eligible for state examination and licensure for both MA-Phlebotomy and Nursing Assistant. Successful licensure will allow the graduate to work as a patient care or emergency room technician.

Job Duties

Typical job duties for a patient care / emergency room technician include:

Patient Care Technician

  • Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.
  • Assist patients with basic activities they may be unable to perform independently, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Accurately documenting patient care activities, vital signs, and other relevant information in the patient's medical record.
  • Offering emotional support, answering questions, and ensuring that patients' needs are addressed promptly.

Emergency Room Technician

  • Perform initial assessments of patients entering the emergency room.
  • Obtain and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.
  • Assist in the care of trauma patients by providing immediate first aid and stabilization.
  • Assist with basic medical procedures, such as wound care, splinting, and bandaging.
  • Assist in the triage process by prioritizing patient care based on the severity of their condition.
