Complete Your Degree or Certificate

Once you have completed the required coursework for your program of study, Green River College will post the earned certificate or degree to your transcript. It is your responsibility to verify you are enrolled in the correct program of study and indicate that on your intent to graduate form.

Applying to Graduate/Intent to Graduate

When you are close to completing your educational program you should complete and return an Intent to Graduate form - see below. It is best to complete this approximately two quarters before you plan to graduate.

Approximate dates for students planning to complete at the end of the following quarter:

  • Summer-April
  • Fall-April
  • Winter-October
  • Spring-January

Office of the Registrar does not utilize the "Apply to Graduate" function in ctcLink at this time. To indicate your intent to graduate, you must submit the following form:

Intent to Graduate Form

Graduation Eligibility

To be eligible for graduation, you must have accomplished the following:

  • Completed all admissions requirements
  • Earned a minimum grade point average of 2.0
  • Completed 24 credits at Green River (doesn't pertain to high school diploma or professional and technical certificate candidates)
  • Completed all degree requirements as specified by the Green River catalog
  • Completed an Intent to Graduate Form (required if you want a paper copy of your diploma mailed to you, and/or to participate in the Commencement Ceremony in June)

You may graduate using the degree requirements in effect during your first quarter of enrollment in that program at Green River for up to six years. After six years, you need to meet the requirements listed in the current catalog. You may petition the degree exception committee with proof of continuous enrollment to be exempt from the Graduation Criteria Policy, SA-22. You may graduate at the end of any quarter.

Degree Exception

Every student enrolled in a degree or certificate program at the college must meet the requirements of that program of study, as defined by the College catalog. A granted Degree Exception does not eliminate the required credit amount; it only substitutes a particular requirement. Exceptions to program of study requirements may be considered as long as the program of study's academic integrity is maintained as voted on by the Degree Exception Committee. Course substitutions will be approved only when such substitutions are consistent with the requirements of the program of study. Course substitutions cannot be made for Direct Transfer Agreement degree requirements. Decisions made by the Degree Exception Committee are final.

Students may graduate using the program of study requirements in effect during their first quarter of enrollment in that program at Green River College for up to six (6) years. After six years, students must meet the requirements listed in the current catalog. Students may petition the Degree Exception Committee with either a) proof of continuous enrollment or b) request for degree exception. See SA-22 Graduation Criteria for additional information.

Procedure:

  • Student meets with their faculty or faculty advisor to discuss what could be substituted for the degree requirement. The substitution class also needs to be supported by that department as well.
  • Documentation, including the student’s degree requirements (academic advisement report), must be submitted through the Degree Exception Request Form that faculty and faculty advisors have access to.
  • The Degree Exception Committee will review and vote on each request
  • Students will be contacted through their student email and Navigate with the committee's decision within two (2) business days of the Degree Exception Committee meeting.
  • If the Degree Exception Request is denied, the committee will provide the rationale in the response to the student.

Note: The Degree Exception Committee meets twice during each of the fall, winter and spring quarters.

Commencement

Diplomas and Digital Diplomas

Once grades are posted for your final classes we will run a final check and confirm completion of your degree requirements. Results of graduation evaluations are sent in Navigate - this includes if your graduation application is denied because you are missing classes. There is a minimum of two weeks to process the request. Processing times can be longer based on volume and availability. Use our Important Dates and Calendars page.

Once your degree has been posted on your transcript and your physical diploma has been printed and mailed, you will receive a text notification as well as a digital copy of your diploma. To ensure your diploma is mailed to the correct address, please keep your Personal Information up to date in ctcLink.

Please note that physical degrees are not distributed at our annual Commencement ceremony. While successfully completing an Intent to Graduate form is the first step in ceremony participation, ceremony participation does not guarantee degree completion until final grades from a student’s final quarter are posted.
