PreRequisites

A prerequisite is a condition or course requirement that must be completed before taking another, more advanced course. It ensures you have the foundational knowledge required for success (e.g., Spanish I before Spanish II). When searching for a class in ctcLink, it will list what the prerequisite for a class is in the enrollment information section.

If you do not meet the prerequisite for a class, you may contact the instructor of a class via email to see if they are willing to give you a permission code to override in the ctcLink system that you do not meet the prerequisite. You would enter this permission code in the ‘review class preferences’ step of enrollment.

Corerequisites

A corequisite is an academic course that must be taken in the same quarter as another specific course. It is a mandatory requirement for registration, not a recommendation, designed to complement or support the main course. Unlike a prerequisite, which must be completed before, a corequisite is taken simultaneously.  When searching for a class in ctcLink, it will list what the corequisite for a class is in the enrollment information section.

Anti-requisites

An anti-requisite is a college course that covers very similar content to another course, preventing students from taking both for credit because they overlap. If a student completes an anti-requisite, they cannot receive credit for the corresponding course, as it is considered repeating the same knowledge (e.g., )

Waitlists

The waitlist feature offers students a fair and consistent method of being enrolled in a full class if an opening occurs. Students may waitlist for up to 18 credits. The waitlist stops running the Friday before the quarter begins.

Students are responsible for:

  • Checking their waitlist status daily to see if enrollment occurred from the waitlist.
  • Paying tuition and fees by the tuition deadline. Non-payment may result in the class being dropped from the student’s schedule.
  • Clearing holds on student accounts including any outstanding balances or unpaid fees prior to the enrollment. If a student has not cleared holds, the student will not be added from the waitlist.
  • Removing their name from the waitlist if they no longer want to be in the class. If students do not remove themselves from the waitlist for an unwanted class, they may be enrolled into the class automatically, incurring tuition and fees, and/or receiving a failing grade. Students are responsible for managing their own class schedules and waitlists.

Criteria that prevents waitlist enrollment.

  • If adding the waitlisted class will result in a schedule that exceeds the maximum number of credits for which a student may be enrolled into. Students can work with their Academic Advisor for permission to over-enroll in credits by filling out a maximum credit overload form.
  • The waitlisted class presents a time scheduling conflict with another class in which the student is already enrolled.
  • Enrolled in another section of that waitlisted class. (Students should SWAP the section they are currently enrolled in with the section they would like to waitlist, if the preference is to be enrolled in the waitlisted section). If students ADD themselves to the waitlist for a different section of the same class, they must DROP the section in which they are enrolled before they will be moved from the waitlist.
  • Enrollment in only one part of a combined class section.
  • Prerequisites for the waitlisted class are not met.

If students are not enrolled from the waitlist due to any of these, the student will be passed over and the next eligible student on the waitlist will be auto enrolled.
