Green River College Hosts Over 80 Universities at Transfer Fair

By International Programs, October 25, 2019

Green River College International Programs hosted over 80 universities in the Mel Lindbloom Student Union.  In preparation for the fair, International Academic Advisors held two free workshops for students.

The first workshop covered what students can do while they are at Green River College to get into their selection of schools. Advisors go over how good grades and the right classes are important, but also, students need to be leaders on campus and write good personal statements. The second workshop was focused more on the questions students can ask the visiting universities. Advisors encouraged students to ask about research opportunities, internship programs, employment on campus, scholarships, and what the draw of their school is when it comes to their major.

According to Zack Williams, the international advisor responsible for organizing the fair this year, "One of the goals of programming is to help our students make the best and most informed decision about their transfer. This means to know the right questions to ask and learn to be an advocate for themselves. I feel we achieve this when we get good feedback from the universities at our transfer fair."

According to Andrew Turgeon, Associate Director of International Student Advising, "I heard from many universities that they appreciated how prepared our students were.  They commented that our students ask very good questions that are more specific to their interests and needs…as compared to more general questions like what majors do you have? Do you require TOEFL?"

Students will have another opportunity to attend a University Transfer Fair in January.
