Green River College Statement on U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s proposed rule relating to admission and duration of status
By Wendy Lee Stewart, Vice President of International Programs, October 2, 2020
College officials are aware of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s proposed rule related to admission and duration of status for international students (F-1 visa holders). Read the press release issued by the Association of International Educators (NAFSA).
Green River College strongly opposes this proposed rule. It would create uncertainty and additional obstacles for international students.
There is a 30-day public comment period through the federal government. Green River will submit comment through this process. We will also work with partners and member organizations to give voice against this proposed rule. As well, we will work to raise awareness of this issue with our state and national congressional representatives.
We will keep you informed of Green River's actions related to this proposed rule.
Green River remains committed to the critical importance of global education. We are dedicated to providing a welcoming, supportive learning environment for our international students.
Sincerely,
Wendy Stewart
Vice President of International Programs and Extended Learning
