Student of the Month: Anh Nguyen, Vietnam

By Lansing Bryan, November 30, 2017

Anh Nguyen is from Vietnam. She came to Green River College in the fall of 2015. After receiving her high school diploma and over 40 college credits, she will be transferring to the University of Texas, Arlington in January 2018.

Q: Why did you choose Green River College?

Anh: I chose Green River College for the High School Completion Program, University Transfer Pathway, and the great study environment.

Q: What did you like about the High School Completion Program?

Anh: The High School Completion (HSC) program is a great way to save time and money. It helped me to adapt and learn about American culture and helped me to improve my English too.

Q: How long did it take you to get your High School diploma?

Anh: I came as a senior in high school and only had to take three classes to get my high school diploma. I took college level classes and high school classes together so I got my diploma in two quarters.

Q: How were your classes?

Anh: I loved my classes and I loved my HSC teachers! They are really passionate and helpful to students. We also take the ACT and SAT which is helpful to have when applying to universities.

Q: What else would you like to share about Green River College Programs?

Anh: Foundation for Success was also a really good program. The instructors help you figure out what university would be a good fit and how to be successful in the future.

I chose Green River, not only for the High School Completion Program, but also because of the University Transfer Pathway options. I already knew I wanted to go to a 4-year university in Texas and Green River has a pathway with a university there.

Q: What did you like most about Green River?

I loved the environment. Instructors are really easy to talk to. They are friendly and helpful.  The way they deliver the lessons makes it easier to follow.

I lived with a great host family for six months. I learned a lot of traditions like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I got a job as a Student Receptionist in the International Programs office.  It helped me to become more opened minded and helped to improve my English and build friendships around campus.  I got to work with a lot of amazing staff!

Q: Would you recommend Green River to your friends?

Anh: Yes! I would recommend this college because it will help you save time and money and you can make friends from all over the world.  Also, the admissions process is really fast. I applied and got accepted in four months.

Q: What is your goal?

Anh: My goal is to finish my BA at the University of Texas and then get experience working in Marketing before I start my Masters at University of Southern California.
