Welcome to Green River College
In alignment with Governor Inslee's emergency proclamation regarding COVID-19, there will be no CORE or Seattle trip until further notice.
We look forward to meeting you at our Virtual New Student Orientation and In-Person Orientation for: placement tests, class registration, campus tours, an overnight camp, and a Seattle trip. With Orientation, you start your academic journey at Green River College with success!
What to Bring
- Passport and current Visa
- I-20
- New U.S. address and phone number
- Proof of health insurance
- E-mail address
- Proof of English Proficiency is submitted when you apply to Green River or as soon as possible; if you bring it to orientation, you will take the English Placement test until your scores are verified.
What to Expect
View the spring quarter 2021 orientation schedule.
All new students take an assessment during Orientation. Students who submitted English proficiency at least 3 weeks before Orientation will take assessments for academic class placement and students that haven't will take the English placement test.
For more information on placement tests see the Advising page.
Advisor
After you are admitted to Green River College, you will be assigned an advisor. Your advisor will send you a welcome email before orientation.
Registration
Students who have met the English Proficiency Requirements and are eligible for academic classes will meet with their advisor before registering for classes. Halfway through their first quarter, academic students meet one-on-one with their advisor to develop a personal education plan. It includes their major, destination universities and a 2-year course plan.
Seattle Trip
During your first two weeks, you'll visit Seattle with student leaders and staff from Green River for a fun day of sightseeing and shopping!
Overnight Camp
Green River provides a free overnight trip for new international students. You will stay in a comfortable, heated lodge and enjoy a traditional campfire and activities like swimming, boating, horseback riding, archery, games, and more with American and international student leaders!
What to Wear
Students and faculty dress casually at Green River. A typical winter outfit is jeans and a pullover or shirt; in the warm summer months, many students wear short pants to class. A light jacket is good to have any time of year.
