Green River College is here to help you meet your academic goals! Current students with college-level credit, test scores, or prior experiential learning can request an evaluation for credit to be applied towards their current program at Green River College. You can transfer credits from another college, professional certifications, or even get credit for work and life experience.

To start the transfer process at Green River College

  • Apply for admission if you have not already. You will need your student ID number for the Transcript Evaluation Request form.
  • Submit a Transcript Evaluation Request (available on our Forms page in both PDF and online form) - make sure to provide your ctcLink ID number and list all previous institutions you attended on the form.
  • Send official transcripts you wish to be evaluated to Office of the Registrar. Official documents can be received by physical mail (mail to general college address attention to Office of the Registrar), electronically (if sent directly by the institution or via secure submission platform such as Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse), or delivered in-person in original, institution-sealed packaging. Documents delivered in an unsealed or opened state, emailed directly by the student, or in any other manner in which tampering may be possible will not be accepted as official. Transcripts that we receive from students through the Secure Document Dropbox are considered unofficial.
  • Once the evaluation process is complete, an evaluator will send the results through Navigate.

How long does the transcript evaluation process take? Once we receive your official transcript(s) and your Transcript Evaluation Request form, then your request will enter the queue to be processed. Processing time is 4-6 weeks from the date when we receive your documents - this may be longer during certain periods of the academic year. While you are waiting for your official transcript evaluation, we encourage you to connect with your advisor to talk about your goals and create an educational plan for which classes to enroll in.

Green River College does not complete preliminary or unofficial evaluations. If you would like the official transcripts sent to Office of the Registrar to also be used for course placement, please contact the Placement and Testing Center. Academic courses will usually be accepted by other institutions offering the same, or similar courses. However, each institution has its own policy and transferability should never be assumed. You can meet with an advisor while you wait for your credits to transfer. Advisors can give an unofficial review to help you plan your classes and can answer most questions involving transfer of credits.

What courses will transfer?

  • College-level coursework completed at a regionally accredited institution with a minimum grade of 1.0 (D) or higher is eligible for transfer to Green River College.
  • Credits do not expire; this means credits that meet the criteria listed above are eligible for transfer to Green River College, regardless of when they were earned.
  • We typically evaluate coursework that could be applicable to your program of study at Green River College; this means we may not transfer in all of your credits, just the credits that apply to the requirements for your program of study.

I earned college credit from an international institution. How do I transfer that credit to Green River College?

    1. Apply for admission to Green River College.
    2. Please complete a course-by-course evaluation of your international transcript with a NACES agency.

Select one of the NACES agencies from the list and request the course-by-course evaluation service.

The NACES agency that you select will guide you on how to submit your official transcripts to the NACES agency.

    1. Then have your course-by-course evaluation report sent from the NACES agency to Green River College, Office of the Registrar. At that time, please submit the Transcript Evaluation Request form.

We may ask for additional documentation (ex. course descriptions or syllabi) once we receive the evaluation report from the NACES agency. This additional documentation (ex. course descriptions or syllabi) can be useful to evaluate for equivalency to specific courses at GRC.

Note: If your international transcript is in English, includes the number of credits earned per course, and identifies the grading scale used at the institution you attended, then a NACES evaluation may not be required. Contact records@greenriver.edu to determine your next steps for evaluation of your international transcript.
