Green River College Featured in the International School Leader Magazine

By International Programs, December 14, 2021

Green River College International Programs was featured in the December 2021 issue of International School Leader Magazine.  The article, written by Wendy Stewart, Vice President of International Programs and Extended Learning, "The Community College Route to a US Bachelor's Degree,"  describes the many benefits of starting out at community college.

Community colleges enroll 12 million students every year, 79,000 are international students (2019-20).  Students choose community colleges because of the low tuition, small classes, and university transfer opportunities.

"The 2+2 university transfer program allows students to earn a bachelor's degree by taking years one and two at a community college, then transferring to a university to complete years three and four. The two-year Associate of Arts and Associate of Science correlate with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science at university."

Green River prides itself on its personal service to each student.

"Advice and support are essential. 'We help students evaluate their priorities regarding transfer institutions in terms of majors offered, ranking, price, location, and overall fit,' says Adam Beals, Director of International Enrollment Management at Green River College (GRC). 'After creating a list of four or five schools, we provide the student with in-depth support mapping their GRC classes, writing and refining their personal statement essays, and submitting their transfer applications.'"

Stewart goes on to share the importance of the transfer articulation agreements with four-year universities (Green River has over 40 UTP schools) and the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degrees. In addition, she covers the benefits of Optional Practical Training, High School Completion, and the many partnerships with international schools.
