Green River College Nursing Assistant Program: NAC Licensure Guide

Completing your nursing assistant program is the first step. Earning your certification is what makes it official. This page walks you through everything you need to know to obtain your Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification (NAC) — from your skills test on the last day of lab to registering for your knowledge test and beyond. Bookmark this page and refer back to it as you move through each step.

Steps to Licensure

Step 1: Pass All Five NAC Program Courses You must successfully complete all five courses in the Green River College Nursing Assistant program in order to get your license. You can begin steps 2-4 before officially passing, but passing all of your classes is a must. 

Step 2: Order Your Official Transcript In the last couple weeks of the quarter, order your official transcript through the GRC Parchment Transcript Page

Click "Ordering your own credentials or academic records"

Enter your email to begin, or sign in if you already have a Parchment account

Under Available Credentials, click "Order" next to "Transcript"

On the destination screen:

  • Do not search for WA DOH — it will not appear
  • Click "I'm sending to myself or another individual"
  • Select "Another Individual"
  • Delivery Method: Electronic
  • Name of Recipient: WA NAC Licensing
  • Email: NACapplication@doh.wa.gov
  • When asked "When do you want this sent?" select Hold for Degree
  • Pay the $12 fee and submit — you will receive an email confirmation once it has been sent

Step 3: Submit Your Licensure Application In the final days of class, submit your licensure application through Secure Access Washington (HELMS). The application fee is $85.

Step 4: Pass the Skills Test The skills test is administered on the last day of lab. There is no cost for your first attempt. If you need to retake it, the fee is $100.

Step 5: Register for the Knowledge Test Only after passing the skills test may you register for the online (or oral) knowledge test through the Credentia website.

Step 6: Pass the Knowledge Test The knowledge test is administered online and costs $55. 

Step 7: Receive Your Certification Once both test parts are passed and your application is processed, you will receive your Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification.
