Learn the practical skills today’s employers need:

  • Technical skills: Microsoft Excel®, QuickBooks®, payroll accounting, taxation, computation, and accounting principles and practices for recording transactions, preparing financial statements, and making management decisions. The BAS in Accounting also includes data and business analytics skills, cost accounting, finance, auditing, and accounting information systems and controls.
  • Soft skills: communication, critical thinking, work readiness, and skills to help foster diverse, equitable, and inclusive teams and organizations.

What is your professional goal? Consider the work you want to do. Different accounting careers require different education and skills:

Associate degree in Accounting

Bookkeeper or Bookkeeping Clerk; Accounting Clerk or Assistant; Accounts Receivable or Payable Clerk; Auditing Clerk; Payroll Clerk or Specialist; Tax Preparer

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Accountant, Auditor, Cost Accountant, Tax Accountant, Managerial (or Management) Accountant, Financial Auditor, Internal Auditor, Financial Analyst, Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) [additional college required for licensure]

Earnings for accounting occupations that require a bachelor’s degree are typically significantly higher than those requiring an associate degree. Determine your career goals and we will help you chart your educational path to achieve them!

CHOOSE YOUR DEGREE

Start with an associate degree. Advance your career in the field and unlock more opportunities with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in accounting.

Associate in Applied Arts (AAA) – Accounting

This is a 90-credit program with a focus on developing in-depth practical accounting knowledge and skills.

Students who complete this degree can apply for entry-level jobs in accounting or continue their education in Green River’s BAS in Accounting program. You can earn all 90 credits for this technical associate degree entirely online, or take some classes in a hybrid format for an in-person learning experience.

This degree generally does not transfer to universities.

Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Accounting 

NEW! Beginning FALL 2024

Combine your associate degree with 90 additional credits to earn this 180-credit applied bachelor’s degree. We designed this program to prepare students for employment in a variety of accounting and auditing positions (see occupations above). It provides a pathway for students who want to continue on to earn a master’s degree, or to attain the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) credential.

Classes are arranged to allow students to work while attending college

  • online classes for some courses
  • hybrid classes  meet one evening per week

You must complete an associate degree to enroll in the BAS program.
