About the Program
Green River College welcomes applications for its LPN program twice a year, providing flexibility to accommodate diverse schedules. The program offers two distinct options: a hybrid part-time program and an in-person full-time program. Both programs offer a traditional pathway and an MA to LPN pathway.
- Full-Time LPN Program Application: April 15th to 4 pm on June 1st each year.
- The full-time program is three quarters, beginning each Fall and concluding in the Spring.
- Part-Time LPN Program Application: December 1st to 4 pm on January 15th each year.
- The part-time program is six quarters, beginning each Spring and concluding in the Summer
Job Duties of an LPN: LPNs play a vital role in patient care, working under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and doctors. Typical responsibilities include:
- Monitoring patient vital signs and reporting any changes to healthcare teams.
- Assisting patients with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, and mobility.
- Administering medications and injections as permitted by state regulations.
- Providing wound care and assisting with dressing changes.
- Collecting samples for lab tests and recording patient information.
- Educating patients and their families on managing illnesses and treatments.
- Collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Graduates of the program are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam to become licensed as Practical Nurses, qualifying them for positions in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and home healthcare settings.
Applications and Admissions
Admission to the LPN program at Green River College is selective and based on academic qualifications, healthcare experience, and a commitment to the nursing profession. Below are the application requirements:
Application Submission:
- Application Period: April 15th to 4 pm on June 1st each year (Full Time) and December 1st to 4 pm on January 15th each year (Part-Time)
- Transcripts: Submit transcripts from your LPN program and any additional post-secondary institutions to verify prerequisite coursework.
- Resume: Include a professional resume that highlights your education history, healthcare related work experience, and any volunteer work.
- Essay: Exact prompts will be released on the date of the application window start date.
- Immunizations: Completion of all required immunizations is mandatory prior to the start of clinical placements. Green River College’s Nursing Department provides a checklist of the necessary immunizations, which must be up-to-date to ensure patient and personal safety in healthcare settings.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the LPN program at Green River College, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age by completion.
- Educational Background: Completion of prerequisite courses with a 2.5 or higher in each class and a 3.0 or higher cumulative pre-requisite GPA.
- Immunizations: Completion of required immunizations before clinical placements.
- Background Check: Clear a background check and drug screening as mandated by healthcare facilities.
