Learn Spanish at GRC
Welcome to Green River Spanish Department! Learning another language is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences we can encounter, one that will benefit our awareness of others, which will enrich our life and provide an especially useful skill. Spanish is not only spoken as official language in 21 countries around the world, but it is also the second most spoken language in the United States.
Did You Know?
- Around 500 million people around the globe speak Spanish.
- GRC teaches language using the communicative method, while exposing students to the multiple cultures in which this language vibrates and exists.
- GRC provides a variety of modalities to take classes: Virtual, face to face on campus Mondays through Thursdays, and courses that are hybrid, combining face to face days with virtual days.
- GRC Spanish classes are small, taught by dedicated instructors, and supported by a Language Center that offers tutoring free of charge for students daily.
Latin American Studies
GRC offers the only Latin American Studies program among our peer institutions in the state. This is a great opportunity to learn about Latin America and the Hispanic world in general. We also offer the Hispanic Studies Concentration that can work as a major for our students. See below the content of the concentration and it is also attached as a document. Program in Hispanic Studies Concentration (20 Credits)
The Program in Hispanic Studies is a 20-credit interdisciplinary concentration. The program exists to foster awareness, knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic world. It offers the student an opportunity to engage in a concentrated study of the diverse culture, art, language, literature and history of Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Hispanic North America and Spain. Given the continued importance of Latin America to the United States and the increasing population of Hispanics in the United States, this focused program of study will be advantageous to those students entering the job market as well as transfer students.
Students may enter this certificate program during any quarter.
A 2.5 GPA is required for those courses applied to the certificate.
