A

Announcements are a tool that your instructor can use to send out messages to the entire class.
Assignments are just like assignments in a face-to-face class, except submitted online. You upload your work, your instructor gives you feedback, and you receive a grade.
Asynchronous means not simultaneous or concurrent in time.
Avatar is a profile image that you can put into Canvas.

B

Blocks are a way that your instructor may organize your online class in WAMAP. Think of blocks as folders that contain readings, media, and assignments you may have to do each week, chapter, or unit. 
Browsers
are computer programs used for accessing sites or information on the internet.

C

Canvas is our main learning management system for online class content and interaction. 
Canvas Mobile App is a way to access your classes on your phone or tablet.
Canvas Calendar brings all of your Canvas courses due dates and events together in one place.
Captions are
Computer & System Requirements are what you'll need to be successful in online and virtual classes in regards to technology.
Conferences are web conferencing tool that you can use to meet with your class, peers, or group through Canvas.
Conversation/Inbox is a tool that lets you and your instructors message each other. Copies of inbox messages are sent to your Green River email address. 

D

Desktop Computer is a computer that is stationary on a desk and its main parts are separate pieces that must be plugged into each other and an electrical outlet.
Discussion/Discussion Boards are a way for you to interact and share ideas with your classmates and instructor online. Your instructor will post a topic and give you instructions, then you’ll share your ideas in a discussion board post. It’s just like a written conversation. 

E

Excel is a spreadsheet app by Microsoft.

F

Face-to-face are classes that are fully in-person on campus at the time listed.
Feedback is when your instructor leaves comments or changes to your work to let you know how you can do better or what you need to change for another submission.

G

Grades is where you’ll find scores and feedback on assignments you’ve submitted in Canvas.
Gradebook is where you'll find scores and feedback on assignments you've submitted in WAMAP.
Groups are a tool in Canvas that allow you to work with peers assigned to you or create a study group of your own and communicate.

H

Hawkes is a learning management system used by some math courses at Green River. 
How to Be a Successful Student Course is a free, non-credit course that students can self-enroll into and work on strategies for becoming a successful student.
Hybrid is a course that is part face-to-face on campus at the time listed and part online without a set time to attend.

L

Laptop Computer is a portable computer that has its main parts integrated into a single unit that is both plug-in and battery-powered.
LMS (Learning Management System) is a software application for the administration and delivery of educational courses.

M

Microsoft Lens is an app that allows you to take pictures or your work and put them into a PDF.
Microsoft Office is a suite of software that allow you to create documents, presentations, and other things. You can download these for free as a Green River student.
Modules
 are a way that your instructor may organize your online class in Canvas. Think of modules as folders that contain readings, media, and assignments you may have to do each week, chapter, or unit.

Netiquette is etiquette of the internet or the customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group online.
Notifications are how you want to be notified of content, grades, feedback, and due dates in Canvas.

O

Office Hours are hours when an instructor is open to drop-ins or scheduled visits from students to answer questions or concerns about the course, help with homework, or give more in-depth feedback. They can be in-person or virtual.
Office 365 is the web version of all of Microsoft Office's products like Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and others.
OneDrive is a file hosting and synchronization service operated by Microsoft as part of its web version of Office 365.
Online is a course that the entire class will be held online without a set time to attend.
Outlook is an app by Microsoft that runs our Green River email.

P

Panopto is a software that allows you to record your audio, webcam, and/or desktop.
Password for Canvas is by default your student ID number.
Peer Review is a learning tool to improve your work through review by others and also deepen your learning by reviewing others' work.
PowerPoint is an app for presentations by Microsoft.

Q

Quizzes is the tool that is used in Canvas to make exams, tests, or quizzes.

R

Remind Mobile App is a way to stay connected to your class and instructor without giving out your personal phone number.
Respondus Lockdown Browser is a custom browser that locks down your computer during a test/exam/quiz.
Respondus Lockdown Browser + Webcam is a a custom browser that locks down your computer and records your webcam and microphone during a test/exam/quiz.

Student Canvas Orientation Course is a free, non-credit and optional course all students at Green River are enrolled in to practice the basics of Canvas.
Syllabus is a document that outlines a course's requirements.
Synchronous means something is happening, existing, or arising at precisely the same time for everyone.

T

Tablets are mobile devices that have a touchscreen display, are larger than cell phones, run off of Wi-Fi, and have a rechargeable battery.
Text Reader is a tool in Canvas that allows you to have the text read to you that is on pages.
Turnitin is a software that checks for plagiarism and incorrectly sourced content.

V

Virtual is a course that is fully face-to-face on a web conferencing tool at the time listed in the class schedule.
Virtual-Hybrid is a course that is part face-to-face on a web conferencing tool at the time listed and part online without a set time to attend.

W

WAMAP is a learning mangement system used by some math courses at Green River.
Web Conference is when you use a technology tool to meet in real time with others using video and audio.
Webmail is using your Green River email in Outlook, online in a browser.
Word is an app for word processing by Microsoft. 

Z

Zoom is a web conferencing tool.
Zoom Mobile App is a way to use a phone or tablet to join a Zoom web conference.
